Privacy Statement

Effective date: February 7, 2026

Business: Burleton Education (“we,” “us”)

Plain Language Summary

  • You can use this site without sharing your gender identity, transgender status, legal name, or medical information.
  • We don’t sell personal information.
  • Subscriptions are processed by Patreon and Substack, not by us, and their privacy practices apply on those platforms.
  • We use Google Analytics to understand site usage. Whether analytics runs depends on your cookie choices.
  • Our cookie banner (Complianz) lets you Accept, Deny, or Save Preferences by category (Functional, Statistics, Marketing)—and you can change your choices later using the site’s cookie settings/consent controls.

1) Our privacy commitments

We recognize that many visitors—especially transgender and gender-diverse people, parents/caregivers of trans+ youth, and care providers—may have heightened privacy and safety concerns. We design our data practices to reduce risk and avoid collecting sensitive personal information unless it’s truly necessary.

In practice:

  • We do not require you to disclose your gender identity, transgender status, legal name, or medical information to use our site.

  • If you choose to share sensitive details in a message, we treat that information as sensitive, limit access, and keep it only as long as needed for the purpose it was provided.

2) Information we collect

A) Information you provide to us

We may collect information you choose to provide, such as:

  • Your name (chosen, or preferred name) and email address when you contact us

  • Any information included in messages you send (contact forms, email, inquiries)

Please avoid including medical details or other highly sensitive personal information in forms or emails unless it is necessary for your question.

B) Information collected automatically (analytics)

We use Google Analytics to understand how people use our website and to improve performance and content. Depending on your consent choices and browser settings, this may collect or process:

  • Pages visited, time on site, general interaction data

  • Device and browser information

  • Approximate location (derived from IP address)

  • Cookies or similar identifiers

We use the Complianz cookie consent plugin to present consent choices and manage non-essential cookies (see Section 9).

3) Subscriptions and payments (third-party platforms)

We do not process subscription payments directly on our website. Subscriptions are handled through:

  • Patreon

  • Substack

When you subscribe through those platforms, your payment and account data are collected and processed by them under their own privacy policies and security practices. We may have access to limited subscriber information provided by those platforms (for example, your display name, email address, subscription status, or tier), depending on your settings and theirs.

4) Care providers and professional training inquiries

We often work with or hear from clinicians, care teams, educators, and other professionals seeking training or consultation. If you contact us in a professional capacity, please do not send protected health information (PHI), medical records, or identifiable patient details. We can discuss training needs using non-identifying descriptions (e.g., “adolescent patient population” or “clinic staff training goals”) rather than case-specific details. Any professional communications you send are handled as private correspondence and used only to respond to your inquiry, deliver requested services, and maintain required business records.

5) How we use information

We use collected information to:

  • Respond to messages and provide requested support

  • Deliver subscription-related information when applicable (through Patreon/Substack systems)

  • Maintain site functionality, security, and performance

  • Understand website usage patterns and improve content (analytics)

  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not use sensitive personal details shared in messages (e.g., gender identity, family circumstances, medical experiences) for marketing.

6) How we share information

We do not sell personal information.

We may share information only in these limited circumstances:

  • Service providers that help operate our site (e.g., hosting, security, email delivery, website maintenance), only as needed to provide their services

  • Subscription platforms (Patreon/Substack) as part of subscription management (as described above)

  • Legal requirements: if we are required to disclose information by law (e.g., a valid court order issued by a non-ideologically biased court, determined by Burleton Education). When feasible and legally permitted, we may seek to limit disclosures to what is strictly required.

7) Hosting and website operations

Our site is hosted and delivered through service providers that may process limited technical data (such as IP addresses, logs, and request metadata) to provide reliable website access and security. At the time of this statement:

  • Domain registrar: GoDaddy (platform services)

  • Web host: acornhost.com

8) Sensitive information and safety

If you share information that could be sensitive—such as transgender status, gender identity, details about a child/teen, or care-related concerns—please know:

  • We keep access to such messages limited to the smallest practical number of people involved in responding.

  • We do not publish or publicly share private messages without consent.

  • Email and web forms can be less secure than encrypted messaging. If privacy is a concern, consider using an email address you control and that others cannot access. Once initial contact is established, continued private communication can be arranged using the free, open-source, end-to-end encryption Signal app.

9) Cookie consent (Complianz) and analytics choices

We use the Complianz cookie consent plugin to display a cookie banner and manage non-essential cookies in line with your preferences. The banner offers the options to:

  • Accept (allow all cookie categories)

  • Deny (deny non-essential categories)

  • Save Preferences (choose which categories to allow)

Cookie categories used on this site
  • Functional: Cookies that help the site work properly and remember essential settings.

  • Statistics: Cookies used for site analytics and measurement. We use Google Analytics in this category to understand general site usage and improve content and performance.

  • Marketing: Cookies used for advertising or marketing-related tracking (if enabled on the site).

How your choices affect analytics

If you Deny or do not enable Statistics, analytics cookies in the Statistics category should not run (except where a cookie is strictly necessary for the site to function, or where your configuration and applicable law permit limited measurement without cookies).

Change your cookie choices later

You can change or withdraw your cookie consent at any time using the cookie settings / manage consent control provided on the site (often shown as a link or button in the footer, in the cookie policy, or as a small floating icon, depending on configuration). You can also reduce cookies through your browser settings.

10) Children and youth privacy

Our website is intended for general audiences and for adults seeking education and resources. We do not knowingly solicit personal information directly from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us so we can address it appropriately.

If you are a parent/caregiver contacting us about a youth, consider the privacy of shared devices and shared email accounts. If contacting us could create risk, you may request a safer communication approach (see Section 12).

11) Data retention

We retain information only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this statement, including:

  • Responding to inquiries and maintaining business records

  • Subscription administration (as applicable)

  • Security and fraud prevention

  • Legal and accounting requirements

You may request deletion of messages you sent to us (see Section 12). Some records may need to be retained for legal, security, or accounting reasons.

12) Your choices and requests

You may request to:

  • Access or correct information you have provided to us

  • Delete messages you sent to us (subject to limited exceptions described in Section 11)

  • Opt out of non-essential communications (if any)

13) How to contact us about privacy

For privacy questions or requests, contact: inquiry@burletoneducation.com

Safety note: If contacting us could put you at risk, you may include a short note like:

  • “Please do not mention transgender topics in the email subject line,” or

  • “Please reply only by email (no phone),” or

  • “Use my preferred name only.”

We will make reasonable efforts to honor those preferences.

14) Updates to this statement

We may update this Privacy Statement from time to time. The “Effective date” at the top indicates when it was last revised.
