Gender Diversity: PK-12 Inclusion
As visibility of transgender, nonbinary, Two-Spirit, queer, and gender-nonconforming cisgender students increases (at present 20% of all students), the realization these students (and their gender-expansive teachers, staff, and administrators) exist in every school district, charter school, and private school worldwide requires a call to action in order to establish trauma-informed social emotional learning in classrooms and other academic environments.
Learning Objectives and Skills Acquisition:
- Better understanding of differential aspects of gender diversity including:
- Identity vs. Expression
- Identity and Expression vs. Sexual Orientation
- Internal experience of identity vs. External projections of identity
- Recognizing the need for use of gender-affirming language, and it’s impact on academic achievement, bullying, and self-harm/suicide reduction
- Confidence in discussion student gender diversity with parents/caregivers
- Reviewing existing curriculum and lesson plans for implicit bias, and non-inclusivity
- Identify and discern evidence-based guidance from political/ideology-driven disinformation and effective responses to such information
